Exploring the Austere Beauty of Austin's Historic State Hospital Amidst Serene Saturday Morning

Video Transcript
Hey everyone, it's Saturday morning, June 14th, 8:20 a.m. This is Gary. I'm just easing into the day, easing into the weekend. Over in the grounds of the historic Austin State Hospital. It's located on Guadalupe, just north of 38th Street. And this hospital was built well over 150 years ago, in the late 1850s. Um, right around the time that Sam Houston was governor of Texas. So it tells you just how long this old lady has been here. Um, This uh original building is an historic Texas monument, uh historic Texas building rather. And the hospital is actually the oldest continually operating hospital of its kind - psych hospital - west of the Mississippi. I love being out here surrounded by these beautiful old trees in the grounds This is looking now East uh towards the main driveway, uh, back on to Guadalupe. So that's your view of the Austin State Hospital on a kind of overcast humid Saturday morning.
