Special Legislative Session at Texas Capitol: Redistricting Takes Center Stage as Key Agenda Item
Hey everyone, it's Monday morning, July 21st and uh this is Gary with City Vibe. I'm over at the Texas State Capitol. Uh, where today commences the special session of the eighty-ninth legislature. 18 items on the agenda. Uh, the marquee item is redistricting, which, uh, given the context and the consequences, uh, is likely to garner national attention as well as local and state attention. Um, could turn into quite a circus over here, folks. Um, other items include natural disaster preparedness measures, uh, specifically, uh, flood warning systems, and of course that comes on the heels of the, uh, devastating floods that swept through, uh, the Texas Hill Country July 14th, July 4th weekend. Um, other items include measures to restrict THC in products marketed to minors. Uh, session gavels in, uh, at 12 noon, so about 2.5 hours from now. Uh, Capitol grounds are quiet. One thing which is apparent, uh, the increased vehicles in the parking lot, a lot of those ubiquitous, uh, black suburbans out here, uh, on state tags. Um, And that's your view just looking north now at the Capitol. I've noticed quite a few legislators, aides, um, Lobbyists and other stakeholders making their way into the building. And this is Gary for City Vibe at the Texas State Capitol on Monday morning.
