Discover Serenity: A Picturesque Morning at Austin’s Bat Viewing Platform

Hey, good morning everyone. Happy humper day. It's Wednesday morning. July 30th, 10:06. A. This is Gary with City Vibe and I'm just easing into the day on the bat viewing platform, which sits uh just to the east of the Anne Richards Congress Avenue bridge. And uh, well I certainly don't have any aspirations. Of seeing any bats uh at this time of day, of course they are, uh, nocturnal feeders, they come out around about sunset. And feed on airborne insects like mosquitoes and gnats and such. Um It is odd actually to think there's a million of the little critters about 30 ft above my head right now. Um, Although we're not gonna see bats, uh, we are going to be able to see um a couple of Austin's other defining populations, and that is the run clubs. And the rowing clubs, because the platform just sits right alongside the Butler hike and bike trail here. And of course, it also gives you a great view of the folks coming. And west from the rowing dock. In fact, I can actually just see what looks to be an 8 up there, men's 8s possibly in a coaching vessel come in this way. Uh, and talking of, uh, run clubs, the good people of the Austin Run Club, uh, we're actually one of the sponsors who actually made this platform possible, uh, when it was erected in, uh, 2018. Gary from uh for City vibe out here on the back viewing platform right in the shadow of the Congress Avenue Bridge and I picked a great time to be out here. Look at this, you've got an 8’s it's a woman's 8. Uh, with a coaching vessel over there just going through. Uh, the arch of the Congress Avenue Bridge. What an absolute joy. That's the view, uh, looking west along Lake Ladybird. I love being out here in the early mornings, um. This morning in particular was definitely cooler than it was earlier this week. Humidity was much lower and what's great about this location is that little ramp there where these two folks are headed, uh, just takes you up to Congress Avenue and you've got. Uh, the Fareground, the food park up there with Desnudo coffee up there. Also, uh, a couple of great taco spots as well. So that's your view looking along. Lady Bird Lake to the east on a beautiful Wednesday morning.
