Texas Democrats Make Bold Move: Capitol Grounds Show Quiet Drama Amid Political Tensions
Hey everyone, Gary, for city vibe over at the Texas State Capitol Monday morning, August 4th, 9:55 a.m. And although the grounds are relatively quiet, uh, there is high drama going on behind the scenes. Uh, last night around 30 Texas Democrats boarded a plane to Chicago, Illinois, uh, in a move to break quorum. Essentially there are not enough voting members present. To take a vote on the redistricting bill, uh, the house is scheduled to reconvene today at 3 p.m. and that is the deadline that Governor Abbott has set. Um, And then the clock starts ticking on various disciplinary measures.
Hey Gary from City Vibe Monday morning, just walking south down the great Walk now with the state capital behind me, uh, just coming up to the south gate in a section of Congress Avenue and 11th, uh, high drama going on behind the scenes at the state Capitol. Um, House Democrats have essentially vacated the state in a move to break quorum over the redistricting bill. Uh, this has already caught the, uh, national news cycle, um. I ran into Ed Lavandera this morning from CNN. They were actually doing a piece from outside of the uh the state Capitol right here. So, uh, other than that, it's a quiet morning, but I would definitely expect to see an uptick in press activity as Governor Abbott's 3 p.m. deadline approaches.
