Walkthrough of Austin's Met Center Park Reveals Unwelcoming Warnings and Deserted Trails
Hey everyone, it's uh July 31st, 1:03 p.m. This is Gary for City vibe, and I think I may have found the least inviting park in all of Austin. This is the Met Center hike and bike trail. Uh, “tenant use only violators will be electrocuted.” Uh, that's for real folks. That's actually printed on there. Um, so this, this, this park, uh, in inverted commas, uh, it sits just across 183 from the airport. Uh, this is Metro Center Drive here. In fact, anybody who has ever done a research study over at PPD will probably be familiar with this place. Uh, it's essentially, uh, a pea gravel, hike and bike trail with a little ribbon of green space around it. And there is a little creek that runs through here as well. Um, you know, in, in fairness, the urban planners have done a half decent job of introducing. Uh, some green space, uh, into an otherwise sun-bleached, cement, uh, suburban hellscape. Uh, try saying that three times fast. Um, let's, uh, let's get a quick look down here at the creek, uh, before somebody tries to electrocute me! The creek's actually kind of nice. It's teeming with little fish. Uh, so get a close up down here and some dragonflies as well. Um, so if you sort of ignore the context of where you are, and the rather foreboding. Uh, warning signs up there on the road. Uh, it's actually not such a bad experience.
