Texas State Capitol Faces Political Standstill as Session Ends Amid Quorum Crisis

Hey everyone, Monday morning, August 18th, 10:30 a.m. Uh, this is Gary for City vibe, just, uh, taking a load off here on the Great Walk of the Texas State Capitol. Let's do a quick recap of the last 48, 72 hours. Uh, so on Friday morning, after failing to reach a quorum, uh, for the 5th or 6th time, uh, the Speaker of the House actually gaveled out the first special session sine die or “sine die” if you really want to lean into the Latin, essentially meaning that that session would not be reconvened and as expected, Governor Abbott immediately called a second special session. Now the expectation is that a quorum will be reached today at 12 noon, uh, with enough of the House Democrats arriving back in Austin over the weekend. So all eyes are on the Texas State Capitol.
