Protests and Politics: A Tense Day at Texas State Capitol During Legislative Session
Hey, good morning everyone. It's Thursday, July 24th, 11:05 a.m. This is Gary with City Vibe. I'm over at the Texas State Capital, uh, just taking the temperature out here on day four of the special session of the 89th uh Texas legislature. Uh, it is a busy, uh, main mall this morning, folks. It's the intersection of Hawaiian shirts. And, uh, business suits as tourists mingle with uh, Legislators, their aides, lobbyists. Um, it looks like we've got a little protest going on up here. I don't want to get too close, uh, but we've got some law enforcement officers, uh, just engaging, uh, with some folks with, uh, Palestine, Palestinian flags. I'm going to give up quite a wide berth, um. For the most part, the atmosphere out here is pretty relaxed. Uh, yesterday there were several committees convened, uh, to deal with emergency, uh, pre prepareriness, specifically flood management systems, and of course that comes on the heels of the devastating floods that swept through the Texas hill country on July 4th, and, uh, I'm actually wearing my little uh green ribbon here, uh, as a way of remembering those, so it was so tragically lost in Kerrville
