Quiet Morning at Texas State Capitol Amid Special Session on Hemp Ban and Redistricting

Hey, good morning everyone and happy Friday. This is Gary from City Vibe over at the Texas State Capitol. It's uh August 1st, 10:21 a.m. A quiet morning so far. I don't see any protests out here. Uh moderate tourist traffic. Seeing a few congressional aides all suited and booted headed in. Today closes out week two of the special session. I think the two issues that really took the oxygen out of the room were SB 5. That's the Senate bill that proposes to ban hemp-based products that contain THC and of course redistricting. Uh, there was a redistricting map floated this week that does show changes to the district that includes the Austin metro area, uh, Dallas, Houston, and even parts of South Texas. Everyone, Gary from City Vibe on August 1st over at the state Capitol, just turning my back now on the Capitol Building, walking south down towards the south gate in a section of 11th and Congress Avenue. Always just enjoy taking in the great walk here, uh, in the shade canopy of these live oaks and cedar elms produce this beautiful sort of shadow pattern. Uh On the checkerboard, uh, concrete slabs here, the great Walk, uh, pink and gray. Uh, there's your view down Congress Avenue, uh, coming in, nothing really to report, uh, a couple of horse horse back, uh, law enforcement officers, just, uh, caddy corner across the inner section there, but everything moving smoothly. You can see all the way down to Congress Avenue Bridge and beyond. Happy Friday, everybody. Uh, Happy August, and I hope you have a great weekend.
