Hot Day on Lady Bird Lake: Austinites Seek Relief Kayaking Amid Striking Skyline Views

It is a hot and humid hump day in the ATX Y’all Uh, this is Gary from City Vibe, squinting into the sun on the South First Street Bridge, uh, Wednesday lunchtime about 1 p.m. Hottest part of the day. There are a few folks out on the bridge. Uh, we're all hugging this little ribbon of shade here that, uh, The bridge parapet gives off. It's the only relief from the heat really. I think the best place to be like these folks, uh, would be out in the river now. Hey everyone, Gary for city vibe here. We're at the north end of the uh South First Street Bridge, looking down on the Butler Hike and bike trail, and no surprise that it is deserted down there. It is hot, it is humid out here, folks. Uh, one or two people out here on the bridge, maybe walking off their lunch. Uh, not too much going on on the, uh, on the lake either. Uh, let's face it, water quality is not exactly pristine. Obviously a lot better than it was a month ago after those July 4th floods, but, uh, yeah, still pretty icky down here on the north shore, and that's the view you can just make out the little Shoal Creek footbridge in the distance.
