Calm Before Action. Quiet Morning Near Texas State Capitol Amidst Political Tensions
Quiet Morning Near Texas State Capitol Amidst Political Tensions
Hey, good morning, everyone. This is Gary from City Vibe. It's Tuesday morning, August 5th, 9:42 a.m. and a different view of the capital this morning. Um, I'm just on the south, uh, west corner of the Capitol grounds here. Uh, you can just make out the, uh, Westgate Tower here. This is the inner section of Colorado and 11th. I'm standing right outside of the Texas governor's mansion, and the reason that I'm here rather than in the Capitol grounds is that this was the site yesterday afternoon of a protest. In response to the redistricting bill that is moving through the special session and of course the pushback against that, which is the House Democrats leaving the state to break quorum. So an update is that the House is scheduled to reconvene. This afternoon at 1 p.m. And uh the House Speaker has actually authorized civil arrest warrants, um, to be actioned against uh those Texas Democrats who have left the state to break quorum.
Hey everyone, Gary from City Vibe here on the southwest corner of the Capitol grounds. I may have misspoken earlier. It's August 5th. It's Tuesday morning, 9:47, uh, right across from the, uh, governor's mansion on the inner section of 11th and Colorado here. Uh, Capitol grounds are quiet. Uh, Congress Avenue is quiet. Except for the hum of leaf blowers, uh, just a little ways from here. Um, Yeah, I've actually enjoyed being in the shadow of the Westgate Tower, which is this, um, almost brutalist looking structure that sits right by the Westgate. Um, it's actually a swimming pool on top, behind those masonry solar screens, and I've always wondered what the view might be like, uh, but from down on ground level, uh, the view is quiet and serene, uh, at the inner section of Colorado and 11th.
