Quiet Morning at Texas State Capitol Amid Special Legislative Session

Hey everyone, it's Friday morning, July 25th, 9:49 a.m. This is Gary for City Vibe over at the Texas State Capitol on day five of the special session. Uh, fairly quiet out here at the moment, guys, let's just do a walk and talk and, and wrap up, uh, the first week. Uh, I actually learned today that this driveway that connects, uh, 11th Street. And the south entrance of the capital is actually called the Great Walk, 25 ft wide, 500 ft long, so. Uh, let's walk and talk, um. So, uh, redistricting continues to be uh the marquee item on the agenda, I think with the consequences and the context, that's likely to become a national as well as state and local issue. Um, we've seen committees convened to deal with, uh, emergency preparedness, preparedness, uh, specifically flood early warning systems, and we've seen small but vocal protests by the LGBTQ community, uh, in regard to the bathroom bill that is on the agenda. Hey guys, Gary from City Vibe on Friday morning. Wrapping up the first week at a special session here at the Texas State Capitol. Uh, just turning my back on the Capitol now, um, and walking south down the great Walk, uh, towards Congress Avenue, great shot down the avenue, and I learned something today. uh, in all the years I've been coming out here, I never noticed that the, uh, the pavers here on the Great Walk. are actually in a checkerboard pattern, alternate, uh, gray and pink granite. Uh, so you learn something new every day with city vibe. Uh, this is your view now straight down Congress Avenue. We can see all the way over the Congress Avenue bridge. I'm sure if we were to squint our eyes, we'd almost be able to see Jo’s coffee down there. And uh happy Friday everyone and uh hope you have a great weekend.
