Austin’s Shoal Creek: A Quiet Morning on the Trails Amidst Rising Heat

Hey everyone, Wednesday morning, August 6th, 11 a.m. This is Gary for city vibe, bringing you a bird's eye view of the Butler hike and bike trail right next to the Congress Avenue bridge. And uh I think the weather lulled us all into a false sense of security this morning. It really did start off nice and cool, but boy, the burners are on now. It is hot, it is humid. Uh, I think this guy here sort of embodies. How everyone's feeling, we're all sort of dragging and dehydrated right now. I'm just gonna dip into the shadow of the Ann Richards Congress Avenue bridge, of course, home. Of the largest urban bat colony. There's about a million Mexican retail bats up there as we speak. Amazing. Uh, yeah, looking out, uh, east. Uh, along the river, along town lake here, got a few kayakers. Just letting, letting the wind take them, I don't see much paddling going on out there. Uh, water quality is picking up. I gotta say, start of July after those heavy rains, it was pretty yucky, but yeah, things are definitely looking a little bit better now. Hey, good morning. You're Gary from City Vibe out on the Butler Hike and Bike Trail. Happy hump day. uh, Wednesday morning 11 a.m., uh, leaving the Ann Richards Congress Avenue bridge behind me now, uh, along with the million or so bats who make it their summer residences, just walking east along the trail in the direction. Of the uh rowing dock trail activity pretty light now. Um, morning started off cool with some cloud cover, but boy, uh, the burners are on now. Uh, don't see too many runners out here, mostly just recreational walkers like myself. And that's your view now just looking back to the west.
