Rain Cancels Farmers' Market in Downtown Austin, But Some Vendors Persist
Hey y'all, Saturday morning, uh, July 5th, 8:49 a.m. This is Gary downtown Austin at the intersection of 4th and San Antonio. I'm right by Republic Square Park, as you can see. Now usually this time on a Saturday morning, this place would be bustling with vendors setting up uh for the SFC downtown Farmers Market. Um, but as per a posting.l on the SFC Facebook page this morning, this market is canceled. Also, the SFC Sunset Valley market is canceled due to weather concerns, so officially there is no farmers' market down here. However, these two gentlemen in the white van. And the gray pickup are from two local farms who typically set up rain or shine anyway. So although the farmers' market officially is closed, a couple of vendors are actually considering setting up on site regardless. Um, so that's your view from a rainy downtown Republic Square Park. Once again, officially the SFC farmers' market here is canceled today, Saturday, July 5th, 10:40 excuse me, 8:50 a.m.
Hey everyone, it's Saturday morning, July 5th, 11:37 a.m. and I am outside of La La Land on the, uh, opening weekend. As you can see, folks out here braving these torrential downpours to get in line to take advantage of the 50% specials that are going on for the next couple of days. Yeah, it's a, it's a great cause, great coffee, great cause, uh, very, um, aesthetically. Pleasing building as well, very social media friendly. And uh let's just see how long this line goes. It's coming, we're coming up now on uh South Congress and Gibson right outside of uh Hurlers if you're familiar with this block. And Fortunately, the rain has let up a little bit as you can see. So hopefully these folks don't get too much of a soaking before they get inside.
Hey, good morning everyone. It's Saturday, July 26th. It's uh 10:30 a.m. and this is Gary at the Republic Square. Farmers' market. Um, what I've noticed today is as the market has expanded out onto 4th Street proper, uh, now that the Republic Tower is complete, um, I'm seeing a little uptick in the number of vendors, also seeing more diverse group of vendors out here. Of course we have the staple organic fruits and veggies. Um, which the market is known for. And of course one of the signatures of the SFC market is they do offer the “Double your dollars” Snap or WIC recipients who are buying fruits and veggies, but we're starting to see more arts and crafts. There's a permanent jewelry vendor here, which is quite interesting. Um, starting to feel a little bit more like the, uh, Barton Creek Square Market, which is as much a craft market as it is a, uh, produce market. Um Some of my favorites are still out here, of course I've always enjoyed coming by WuuF Dog, lots of raw, uh, raw hide out here and a couple of pups there who are eagerly anticipating a sample, I'm sure.
