Quiet Morning at Texas Capitol Amid Redistricting Tensions

Hey, good morning, everyone. This is, uh, Gary from City vibe. I'm over at the Texas State Capitol. It's the last day of July, July 31st, uh, 10:08 a.m. Uh, all quiet so far as you can see, uh, a couple of mounted officers enjoying the shade, just a few tourists. So let's just do a walk and talk on the great walk. So, uh, redistricting is back on the boil. Uh, a draft redistricting map was released yesterday, uh, to much hubbub. Um, it essentially. Um, moves voters, uh, from one district to another to achieve certain partisan aims. Um Now, uh, The minority party have floated an idea of breaking quorum, essentially leaving the state, so there are not enough votes in the house. Not enough voters present in the House to pass the bill. It's a drastic, but it's not an unprecedented move. The negative consequences, of course, of that means that the whole process grinds to a halt, including other measures which do have bipartisan support. Hey everyone, Gary from City Vibe over at the Texas State Capitol. This might just be the lull before the storm, really nice, quiet, serene morning out here. Uh, here the birds are ching, chirping, and, uh, squirrels are out here doing what squirrels do best. Um, just doing a 180 now heading south back down the Great Walk in the general direction of Congress Avenue. Uh, everything seems quiet out here. Uh, the beautiful, um, mature live oak trees and cedar elms cast that beautiful dappled shadow on the pavers of the great walk. Out here it's one of those days where you can definitely just stop, smell the roses, just enjoy the aesthetic beauty of the capital, and that's a shot straight down Congress Avenue. Uh, traffic moving freely, uh, nothing untoward going on there. I can see all the way down to the Congress Avenue bridge and beyond. Have a great day y'all.
