Discover Austin’s Hidden Gem: Serenity and Artistry at Sparky Park

Happy hump day everyone. It's, uh, Wednesday, August 20th. It's uh 8:08 a.m. and this is Gary for City vibe. I'm starting my day off in the Hyde Park neighborhood, uh, this Little hashtag “hidden gem” is Sparky Park. It's a neighborhood pocket park that sits between Speedway and Duval, just south of Thirty-eighth Street and. The thing I love most about Sparky Park is this incredible mural wall behind me that's made from. Fossilized wood. Uh, rocks of different textures, uh, crystals and other found objects, uh, everywhere you look. There's a nice little detail that catches your eye. Let's give a shout out to The muralist here, uh, it's centered around an old, uh, 1930s uh power substation. Uh, maybe that's where it gets its name, Sparky Park. And so it's no coincidence that the, uh, little grotto here features these structures that look a lot like uh Van de Graf generators. Hey everyone, Gary from City vibe. I'm out just exploring Sparky Park, a little pocket park in the Hyde Park neighborhood that sits, uh, just south of 38th Street between Deva and Speedway. This really is the perfect time of day to come out here. Um, the light really plays beautifully. Of some of the features of this 3D mosaic that uh that define this park. Everywhere you look there are little uh trinkets and objects that people have left. I think there's a Buddha here. Someone's left some earrings. And uh it sits in the shade of these old mature elm trees. There's some uh crepe myrtle trees as well that lie in the little grassy area. And uh the cherry on the Sundae as well is if you want to spend time out here. Uh, this old 1930s substation that sits right in the middle of the park is actually now a rentable venue space, so that's a view from Sparky Park, Wednesday morning out in the Hyde Park neighborhood.
