Vibrant Mural 'Tau Ceti' Lights Up Saturday Morning in Downtown Austin
Hey everyone, it's Saturday morning, July 26th. It's 8:24 a.m. and this is Gary for City vibe. I'm just easing into my day, uh, with a little, uh, color therapy. I'm at the inner section of Second and Brazos, and this mural behind me is called Tau Ceti. It's, uh, named after the constellation Cetus. Fun fact, it's actually the unofficial. 13th, 13th uh sign of the zodiac, um. Yeah, Tau Ceti is a dwarf star in that constellation that actually has the same visible light spectrum as our sun, which I think is why the artist chose that name. Um, it was completed in 2018 by a Romanian artist, and, uh, it's no surprise to to to know that it's the tallest public art installation in Austin. It's 108 ft tall. And it spans 10 stories of the old convention center parking lot.
Hey everyone, Gary, for city vibe, Saturday morning, uh, just enjoying some color therapy at the corner of Brazos Street and 2nd Street. I'm right by the Tau Ceti mural. And what's unique about this piece is because it's, uh, painted in an inverted corner, uh, depending on what time of day you visit. The sun reflects or refracts of it at different angles, uh, so you get a completely different experience in the early morning as you would, uh, midday and then again, uh, something completely different at sunset. And Definitely a very unique piece. Uh, the scale of it is quite impressive, 108 ft tall, spanning 10 stories of the old convention center parking lot. I hope you have a wonderful rainbow colored weekend y'all.
