Quiet Morning at Texas Capitol: No Protests as Legislative Session Focuses on Divisive Issues
Hey, good morning everyone. It's a Tuesday morning, July 22nd, 10:15 a.m. This is Gary for City Vibe, outside of the Texas State Capitol. I'm just hanging out with uh. Notorious RBG, uh, Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg who has made an appearance. Um, it's day two of the special session of the 89th Texas Legislature. Uh, although redistricting remains the marquee item on the agenda, uh, there are other hot button items as well. Uh, one of which is centered around abortion. And the other deals with uh transgender people, uh, using the bathroom which corresponds to their sex assigned at birth, uh, both very emotive, evocative issues which could absolutely catalyze. Uh visual and vocal protests out here, but for now everything is quiet. Uh, there is an uptick in vehicle traffic out here. A lot of these ubiquitous black suburbans on Texas tags, and of course a lot of black and white state trooper vehicles, as you can see just looking south now towards Congress Avenue.
