Bat Emergence Awaits. Anticipation Grows as Visitors Gather to Witness Austin's Famous Bat Colony Emergence

All right, what's going on y'all? This is Joshua with TruVibe, and we are live at the Congress Bridge right now, and we are starting to see the bats come out, the Mexican free-tail bats. That live here underneath the South Congress Bridge. You can see them down at the further columns. We're trying to make sure we catch them on this side, so just gonna film for a couple of minutes and just see what we get. Um, but yeah, uh, the Mexican free-tailed bats, uh, there's about 1.5 million of them. And did some looking up on some research on the facts and uh most of them are actually female underneath the bridge as they are roosting, uh. And uh, Here we go. Yeah, it's starting to come out. When this flew over my head. Uh, but these guys are, these ladies actually are wicked fast. They move at speeds of over 60 miles to 100 miles an hour, um, and, uh, yeah. Um, they take this nightly flight. You can see I'm just starting to spin up over there down the far side, um. But uh they take their nightly flight um to feed themselves and get nourishment, uh, and then Basically they roost here until uh early June where there goes one right there, uh, early June where they start uh to give birth and each mother has one pup, um. And yeah, they identify their pups by scent and using a special calls that they give. Um, to identify their specific club, um, and sometimes they'll also Nurse other bats, pups about 15% of the time. Um, but yeah, we're getting. That sun sunset was at 6:31, and it's, we got sun coming out here. On this side, so yeah, now we're starting to see them come closer to the column and uh yeah and we also, so there's there's actually a large crowd, uh that is. There, uh, on the other shore on the south shore, um, and we've got a gathering over here with a lot of people taking photos and videos, um, to witness this, uh, Beloved bat colony. Um, if you guys wanna celebrate the bats, they have bat fest, which is August 19th, uh. And yeah, it's just a celebration of this bat colony that has been here since the 80s, so. Um, Other than that, we're gonna hop in the next video and see what they're asking, what they're, they're starting to make their way out, but we got a bunch of them coming this way. Let's see if we can get a better view. Off of this light. Yeah, see when you're starting to swim. Swarm And uh 1.5 million bats. I don't know if you can see it now. This trail that's uh forming, it's like. Swirling awesomeness. You can make their way out. And uh yeah, it's plenty of ways to view the bats, you see we got a lot of uh Got a lot of the uh boats out here on the water, viewing. And yeah, man, there's so many of them, they're just pouring out. It's awesome. we Let's hop in the next video. Um, let's see what else we got here. Very small bats, but. Let's see Track a couple It's very hard to see them. On the Spanish point because they're. A little bit darker, but like I can see them. It's just showing it on screen is a little bit difficult, but. Let's see if we can get some. You can see down Further that they have. Just It looks like a, like a column, almost like a tornado. They're just kind of spinning around. It's like that movie. Batman. Go down and the Batman begins and calls the bats. To see this column. Getting bigger as they all come out. And uh I'll tell you what, and then like it's awesome to see, uh, these guys eating all the mosquitoes out here. We appreciate it and the bugs. They ate over like 30,000 pounds of bugs and said, oh, look at this. Yeah, let's see. If you can get closer Yeah. Oh, right below me. They're all just swirling out of this column.
