Severe Pollution Under South First Street Bridge Highlights Impact of Recent Weather Events

Video Transcript
Hey everyone, Sunday, June 4th at 3 p.m. This is Gary. I'm down underneath the South First Street Bridge. Really just taking a look at the water conditions out here. Um, I was gonna make a joke about paddling into June, but the aftermath of the weather events of last week really have taken a toll on the water quality and the wildlife under here quite sadly. As you can see, extending out probably 50 ft into the water, uh, is just a nasty soup of uh storm runoff, plastic containers and uh who knows what else, frankly. I'm here with uh some Waterfowl I'm just hanging out, I don't want to get too close and disturb them they had a rough week as it is. Uh, it's definitely put it damper I think, on the uh paddle boarders and the canoers, this is now looking uh east toward Congress Avenue Bridge. With the waterline tower just in view, the water quality is better, closer to the center of the lake, as you can see uh there is a couple of kayakers now just coming into shot. Yeah, that's it. This is Gary for Cityvibe on Sunday afternoon.
